An unbelievable deal? The $200m mansion reportedly bought by Beyoncé and Jay Z The super-rich

Niami was formerly a movie producer, and “Opus” can feel like a tentpole movie set. In a three-minute trailer on the Opus website, a woman wearing a VR headset writhes awake in the indoor-outdoor master bedroom, as glittery, gold-masked women join her for a bacchanalia of champagne, skinny dipping, and light foreplay. For developers selling a lifestyle, McClean’s designs offer the correct canvas to play with. A rare look at the entrance of the $120 million Bel-Air home purchased by Jay-Z and Beyoncé, which boasts bulletproof windows and a helipad. With daughter Blue Ivy, 5, starting school this fall and two new family members keeping the superstars focussed on home life, it's not likely Queen B and her king will be leaving this gorgeous castle any time soon. Beyoncé and Jay-Z certainly made jaws drop last week when news broke that the pair splashed out a cool $200 million to purchase a luxe home in Malibu — breaking a California home sale record in the process. The “Opus” property features a basement-level pool, billiards room, champagne room, wine room, and a movie theater. Originally listed for $100 million, this Trousdale mansion is now $85 million. The concrete home overlooks the Pacific Ocean and has striking features, an expansive lawn on either side, and plenty of privacy for the ultra-famous family of five. The sale was brokered by Kurt Rappaport, a celebrity real estate agent of the Westside Estate Agency, who represented both the buyer and the seller in the sale. The colossal home spans nearly eight acres and has a private beach, infinity pool that seems to stretch off into the ocean, and Zen water features.

We’re sure the 32-time award-winning Grammy artist looks forward to returning to sunny Los Angeles to luxuriate at her new mansion with her family. The media mogul, actress and philanthropist reportedly paid $52 million for her Montecito mansion, which covers 23,000 square feet and sits on 70 landscaped acres. It is now worth significantly more — its 2022 assessment record in Santa Barbara County put the home’s value at more than $100 million, with taxes alone topping $1 million.

The WhatsApp CEO, Jan Koum, bought two adjoining properties for a combined $187m, while Marc Andreessen owns three different Malibu homes with a total value of $255.5m. The seller is renowned art collector William Bell, son of the creator of American soap operas The Young and the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful. Bell, who bought the property in 2003 at $14.5 million, spent over 15 years completing the 30,000 square feet compound–designed to showcase his legendary art collection. The new Knowles-Carter estate in Malibu was designed by the self-taught Pritzker Prize-winning Japanese architect Tadao Ando, best known in the U.S. for building the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth. The home was created for Bill Bell Jr., an heir to a soap opera fortune.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are said to be regular guests, although their March 2021 bombshell interview with the talk-show queen wasn’t filmed in her backyard. McClean points out a white cluster in the mountains just east of the Getty Museum. “You probably can see it from space,” McClean says of the spec home he installed there. This particular one is asking an astonishing $500 million, making it the most expensive mansion in America (a title currently held by another Bel Air property not of his design, listed at a mere $350 million). Dubbed “The One,” the McClean house comes with a 30-car garage, a 5,000-square-foot master bedroom, and a casino, among other features that balloon it to nearly 100,000 square feet. The new Blue Jay Way home, at 8,000 square feet, is by no means the grandest of McClean’s designs, which can come with six-digit square footages and nine-digit price tags.

The broker for the deal was Kurt Rappaport of Westside Estate Agency, whose other clients include Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, and Madonna. The family’s new SoCal spread stands on 8 acres in the famed affluent beach enclave. Spanning a massive 42,000 square feet, they bought it from Bill Bell, who’s one of the world’s largest art collectors. “[It] came on the market right around the same time that Lehmann Brothers crashed, and it sold for a lot of money,” McClean says. The address sold in 2005 for $2.6 million; in 2009, after McClean’s work, it went for $10 million.

Amid Beyonce's 'Renaissance' world tour, the songstress & her husband, Jay-Z, reportedly purchased the second most expensive home in the country on May 19. On Reddit, a thread about the mysterious property concluded that “every Malibu mansion looks like a supervillain lair”. The mansion been described as “massive”, “minimalist” and “echoey”, and reportedly includes both a pool and a “water feature”, as well as an award-winning concrete driveway.

While she is busy touring across the globe for her Renaissance tour, the “Single Ladies” hitmaker and her husband, Jay-Z, 53, reportedly purchased a mansion in Malibu for a whopping $200 million, TMZ reported on May 19. The luxurious 30,000-square-foot property is located on an eight-acre bluff that looks over the Pacific Ocean. Beyoncé and Jay-Z reportedly just bought a house that—between the price, the size, and the world-class architectural pedigree—would break any design lover’s soul. In May 2023, Beyoncé and husband Jay-Z purchased a $200 million dollar Malibu home overlooking the Pacific Ocean, inking the most expensive real estate deal in California history, according to TMZ.

Ando, the architect, is a Pritzker prize winner, whose exposed concrete and glass homes have become status symbols for American superstars. Kim Kardashian announced earlier this spring that she was working on a “dream project” with Ando, and in 2021 Kanye West reportedly purchased a comparatively modest beachfront Malibu home designed by Ando for $57.3m. The house is a minimalist masterpiece, a modern concoction of concrete and glass envisioned by art collector William Bell, who bought the property for $14.5 million in 2003.

New York City still holds the record for the most expensive home in the United States, a $238m penthouse apartment overlooking Central Park. But California has been repeatedly breaking its own records in recent years. Supplanting their new neighbor, the Knowles-Carters’ nine-figure closing now takes the cake as the second-most expensive home purchase in American history (the top being $238 million for an NYC apartment). Beyoncé and Jay-Z are the latest to shell out an exorbitant sum of straight cash for one of the Pritzker Prize-winning architect’s few residences in the United States. Kurt Rappaport of Westside Estate Agency handled both ends of the deal, TMZ reported. The brothers also co-created HBO’s “Room 104” and co-wrote and directed feature films like “Baghead” and “Jeff, Who Lives at Home” among several other collaborations.

Just this year, she claimed the title for the most Grammy wins of all time. His style is on full display here, as the L-shaped mansion opens to vast, open spaces marked by concrete hallways and floor-to-ceiling walls of glass. Out back, patios lead to a swimming pool, cabana and a flat, grassy lawn perched on a cliff overlooking the beach below. Kurt Rappaport, the celebrity real estate agent who represented the Carters as well as the Bells in the sale, did not immediately respond to Insider's request for comment.

Beyoncé, who’s on track to net $2 billion from her international Renaissance tour alone, has yet to announce the family’s move-in date. Beyoncé and Jay Z’s private collection is extensive, including works from Damien Hirst, Jeff Koons, Mark Rothko, and a Tiffany-blue Basquiat. If anyone wants to outdo Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s buy, though, they’ll have to compete with more than price alone. The all-concrete home centers on sweeping windows harmonizing artificial and natural light—all the better to drink in those multimillion-dollar views, while still lending the home’s sleek lines that signature Ando buoyancy. Azure pools (plural) punctuate the outdoor space, with access to a private beach.

Apparently that’s the biggest real estate transaction in California history, smashing the previous record of $177 million. It’s also the second most expensive home real estate deal in US history — behind only a $238 million transaction for a property in New York City. The concrete compound, which overlooks the Pacific Ocean, naturally comes with a swimming pool, and sits on eight acres of land. Designed by famed Japanese architect Tadao Ando, the property was commissioned and owned by soap opera veterans turned renowned art collectors William and Maria Bell, with the project reportedly taking 15 years to complete.

Oprah Winfrey $100 million estate Montecito

Couple all that with “sleek and sexy exteriors,” and it’s a recipe for record prices. This investment reportedly is also the second most expensive real estate contract in the country, as a New York City apartment was previously sold for $238 million. The 30,000-square-foot Malibu property was designed by Japanese master architect Tadao Ando, who also created Kanye West’s $57.3 million mansion he acquired during his divorce from Kim Kardashian. A representative for Beyoncé did not immediately comment on the reports about the mansion purchase. Kurt Rappaport, the Malibu “alpha agent” who reportedly arranged the record-breaking $200m sale, has previously worked with Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt and Ellen DeGeneres. With its steep green cliffs overlooking the Pacific Ocean, Malibu is a top contender in America’s ultra-luxury real estate market.

Beyoncé and Jay-Z Drop $200 Million on Malibu Home

Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s latest property purchase adds to a luxury property portfolio that includes a $100 million Bel Air mansion, which the couple are reportedly holding on to alongside their new Malibu home. The eye-watering price tag makes the house the most expensive property ever to be sold in the state of California, dethroning a Malibu estate bought by venture capitalist Marc Andreessen for $177 million in 2021. Superstar couple Beyoncé and Jay-Z smashed a real estate record with the purchase of their new Malibu home. Ando, who also designed Kanye West’s Malibu beachfront home, built the digs in collaboration with award-winning architect (and protégé) Kulapat Yantrasast, who runs the firm WHY out of New York and Los Angeles. Plus, it seems the Knowles-Carters got a bit of a deal on the home, originally listed for an eye-watering $295 million.

Images of the new home can be found on many pages dedicated to Ando’s work, if you use the keywords Bell and Malibu. Be sure you are looking at the right one, because Ando built another beachside Malibu home for financier Richard Sachs in 2013, which was purchased in 2021 by Kanye West for $57.3 million. (Peanuts compared to what Beyoncé and Jay-Z paid.) The 4,000-square-foot home is reportedly in a state of disrepair right now, with unfinished remodeling projects dragging on.

The couple just paid $200 million for a nearly 40,000-square-foot, eight-acre property in Malibu that daytime television producer William Bell and his wife Maria commissioned from Ando in 1999. After building the architect’s vision 15 years later, the Bells used it as both a home and gallery for their famed art collection, most notably their collection of Jeff Koons. The pair reportedly had a secret viewing of the 57,000-square-foot, French chateau-style home. The house currently belongs to British Formula 1 heiress Petra Ecclestone and her husband, billionaire businessman James Stunt, who purchased it for $85 million in the summer of 2011, according to W Magazine. Incredibly, Beyoncé and JAY-Z actually got something of a deal, as the property was originally listed for $295 million. But with a combined net worth of $2.5 billion, the power couple likely had no problem securing a mortgage.

Though he works on a grand scale, McClean isn’t interested in hotels or commercial projects. He grew up outside Dublin to working-class parents, in a row house around 600 square feet—about the size of many of the his-and-hers bathrooms he designs today. Around age four, he became fascinated with houses; at his local and school library he discovered Frank Lloyd Wright, Rudolph Schindler, and Richard Neutra as well as Frank Israel.

Beyonce and JAY-Z have finally found a home in Los Angeles after house hunting for two years. The couple paid $88 million for their Bel Air mansion, a source confirms to PEOPLE. On Thursday, the Wall Street Journal reported that homes designed by Ando — who’s based in Osaka, Japan — are supremely rare with a cult following. Newly popular among the A-list set, with clientele also including Kim Kardashian and her ex-husband Kanye West, there are fewer than 20 Ando-designed residences in the US. But that doesn’t mean social-media users are altogether impressed by the look of the property, which was designed by the 81-year-old Tadao Ando — a Pritzker Prize-winning architect who’s among one of the discipline’s most respected names. Originally listed for $100 million, “Opus,” a Trousdale mansion developed by Niami and designed by McClean, is now $85 million.

For the design, he brought in Japanese architect Tadao Ando, a Pritzker Prize winner responsible for impressive concrete structures across Asia, Europe and North America. In addition to their new mansion, the couple also owns homes in Lower Manhattan, the TriBeCa loft, where they shared their nuptials and an $88 million mansion in the Bel Air section of Los Angeles. There are also rumors that the Carters own a mansion in New Orleans, as they listed it for sale and took it off the market in 2021.

Although Beyoncé is currently on the first leg of her widely popular Renaissance World Tour, it didn’t stop her from selecting her newest home. The power couple snagged the record from their new neighbor, venture capitalist Marc Andreessen, who bought his home next door for a staggering $177 million in 2021. The Knowles-Carter estate in Malibu was designed by the self-taught Pritzker Prize-winning Japanese architect Tadao Ando, best known in the U.S. for building the Fort Worth Modern Art Museum.

Because the home was listed privately, it’s not known how many bedrooms and bathrooms are inside or the types of amenities—but we can only imagine the home’s features are fit for the couple’s extravagant tastes. The calming retreat is both simple and tranquil—surely a respite from both of the musician’s busy lifestyle. Knowles is currently in Europe on her Renaissance World Tour, which is estimated to rake in nearly $2 billion.

This makes it the most expensive purchase for a private residence in California. "Beyoncé and Jay Z seem serious about living in L.A. full time," the insider said, adding that the parents are currently touring private kindergartens for Blue, 5, in Los Angeles. Since the arrival of their twins, Rumi and Sir in June, the family has been making their newest members feel at home in a stunning Malibu rental house. A real estate source confirms to PEOPLE that the couple rented the 10-bed, 14-bath villa — which rents for $400,000 a month, fully furnished — earlier this summer. The Carters have been renting a series of luxury properties while house hunting since they made the move west from New York City in 2015, but have struggled to find a suitable home, even with a budget of $100 million.

'House of the Dragon' HBO: A guide to key characters, houses Los Angeles Times

No claims to any land or titles, but in the books he has a reputation as the greatest living warrior in Westeros, so that’s something. The series makes him part Dornish, which hasn’t been a detail previously. Plotting family members hungry for power are a mainstay of Westeros and everywhere in Game of Thrones, and Otto ranks somewhere in the middle of them. He’s certainly no Tywin Lannister or Olenna Tyrell, but he’s better fit to help maneuver his daughter Alicent and her son Aegon toward the Iron Throne than most.

Rhaenyra has three sons, including Jacaerys ("Jace") and Lucerys ("Luke").

One of the greatest joys and struggles of the first few seasons of Game of Thrones was trying to figure out the story’s dozens of characters and how to keep them all straight. But if you thought eight seasons in Westeros were enough to teach you everything you need to know, House of the Dragon’s new trailer brings some bad news. “House of the Dragon” tells the story of the Dance of Dragons, which is the war of succession within House Targaryen. Since it was extensively covered in “Fire & Blood,” the entire story exists to read, so viewers of the HBO series should beware of spoilers for upcoming storylines. Prepare to step back into the world of “Game of Thrones” on Sundays once again. HBO’s prequel series, “House of the Dragon,” reenters Westeros.

George R.R. Martin, Vince Gerardis, Sara Hess, and Ron Schmidt also serve as executive producers, with Greg Yaitanes as co-executive producer.[20] The first season premiered on August 21, 2022. Without getting into spoilers, the presence of Simon Strong and Alys Rivers, in particular, point to a sequence of events from the source material that unfolds at Harrenhal. There's a reason Prince Daemon (Matt Smith) made mention of Harrenhal when poring over the painted table at Queen Rhaenyra's (Emma D'Arcy) war council in the season 1 finale. Jaehaerys decided to appoint Baelon the new Prince of Dragonstone. When Baelon died, Viserys took his place in the line of succession. Essentially, Rhaenys could have been queen, but her dad died before her grandfather did.

Though he is the brother of King Viserys, Daemon resents the throne because Viserys refused to allow him to gift a dragon egg to his lover, Mysaria. Daemon is one of the greatest warriors in Westeros at this time and rides the dragon Caraxes. Daemon is also the uncle of Rhaenyra and will later become her husband, just one of his many marriages — though Mysaria stays by his side the whole time. He’ll likely be something of a Jamie Lannister-type in this series, though with a whole lot more ambition. The prequel series’ latest trailer, released on Thursday, already throws a few names at viewers and gives them a whole lot of pale, blond people to keep track of.

Though Laenor is not a member of House Targaryen, he is the rider of the Targaryen-bred dragon Seasmoke. Many lords and ladies in the realm (along with some smallfolk we've seen) believe Aegon should inherit the Iron Throne after his father Viserys dies. But Viserys has maintained that the throne will pass to his firstborn child, Rhaenyra (who is half-sister to Aegon II).

Nicknamed the Sea Snake, Corlys is the lord of House Velaryon and is known for his knack for nautical adventures. Like the Targaryens, members of House Velaryon are of Valyrian descent, giving them silver-hued hair. Rhaenys is better known as "The Queen Who Never Was." She could have been heir to the throne, but life's drawn her, uh, no stick at all.

House Velaryon, like House Targaryen, came from the former Essos stronghold of Valyria. They are the oldest houses in Westeros, and Lord Coryls commands the largest navy in the world. He serves on the king's council at the start of "House of the Dragon." Since King Jaehaerys had no living sons by the time his death was near, he chose to let a Great Council select the next ruler of the Iron Throne. That council selected Viserys, maintaining the rule that only men could inherit the most powerful seat in Westeros. Ryan Condal and Miguel Sapochnik serve as showrunners and executive producers.

Aegon II Targaryen

"House of the Dragon," a prequel to HBO's hit series "Game of Thrones," premiered on HBO and HBO Max on Aug. 21. The series takes place 200 years before the events of "Game of Thrones," a time when House Targaryen ruled Westeros. Member of a minor house, and the son of a steward at Blackhaven.

King Viserys Targaryen (Paddy Considine)

In the realm, Princess Rhaenys is sometimes called "The Queen Who Never Was." Mysaria was once enslaved in Essos (she was born in a city called Lys), and now is Daemon's favorite sex worker. After Rhaenyra cuts short her tour of Westeros, Daemon introduces the princess to the Street of Silk after dark. Viserys hosts a tournament to celebrate the birth of his second child.

In Martin's books, Viserys is 26 when he ascends to the throne. He ascends to the Iron Throne after the death of his grandfather, King Jaehaerys I Targaryen. Viserys, the eldest son of Jaehaerys' son Baelon, was selected by the Great Council to be king.

A decent man in general, he only wants to preserve the peace that his grandfather ruled over for 50 years. This is a really interesting role for Considine, who doesn’t have many passive and manipulable characters in his back catalogue – and the matter of choosing his heir is the main driver of the plot this season. House of the Dragon is an American fantasy drama television series created by George R. R. Martin and Ryan Condal for HBO. A prequel to Game of Thrones (2011–2019), it is the second television series in the A Song of Ice and Fire franchise. Condal and Miguel Sapochnik served as the showrunners for the first season. Featuring an ensemble cast, the show portrays the events leading up to the beginning of the decline of House Targaryen, a devastating war of succession known as the "Dance of the Dragons".

Viserys later chooses to marry Alicent Hightower, with whom he has a son Aegon, creating a crisis of succession that sets off the first Targaryen civil war, known as the Dance of the Dragons. As war looms closer in House of the Dragon, the noble houses of Westeros are already beginning to choose sides in the rivalry for the Iron Throne between Rhaenyra and Aegon Targaryen. The shifting political alliances and ever-expanding cast of characters can be hard to keep up with, particularly since so many weren’t featured in Game of Thrones. This is Viserys I (Daenerys’ brother in Game Of Thrones was Viserys III). Viserys was chosen by the lords of Westeros to succeed the Old King, his grandfather Jaehaerys Targaryen, but it wasn’t a straightforward succession, and that decision was not without controversy.

Criston’s father is the steward to the Lord of Blackhaven, but despite technically being called a noble house, House Cole is largely looked down upon in noble society for their “low-born” status. Cole’s Dornish ancestry probably doesn’t help matters either. The first season received highly positive reviews, with praise towards its character development, visual effects, writing, score by Ramin Djawadi, and performances. However, the pacing, specifically of the time jumps, and the dark lighting of some scenes were criticized. The series premiere was watched by over 10 million viewers across the linear channels and HBO Max on the first day, the biggest in HBO's history.

Sapochnik departed as showrunner after the first season, leaving Condal to serve as the sole showrunner for the second season. The second season is set to premiere on June 16, 2024, consisting of 8 episodes. Tom's Guide will keep you posted on all updates surrounding the upcoming "House of the Dragon" season 2 episodes, including cast insights, episode info and new promos.

Anti-Israel protesters drape massive Palestinian flag over side of DC Hilton hosting White House Correspondents Dinner

grandma's house movie

Adolescent David and his teenage sister Lynn are orphaned after their father dies unexpectedly, and are sent to live with their maternal grandparents at their Victorian home in rural California. The children previously lived in the home with their mother when they were very young, but have little memory of it. En route by bus, the children witness an ominous woman standing in the middle of the road near their grandparents' home, almost causing the driver to get into an accident.

Grandmother's House (film)

As someone raised in their Grandma’s house I totally get the concept of young parents unloading their kids on their parents while they deal with something. Loretta could write the book on playing a portly southern woman with good Christian values. Seeing her take her talents and apply them to a grandma figure is unexpectedly appropriate for her talents. There are a few moments where she steals a scene and had me bursting in laughter.

Anti-Israel protesters ran amok outside of the annual White House Correspondents Dinner, draping a massive Palestinian flag over the side of the venue and shouting at President Biden’s motorcade and guests as they headed inside. While driving in the orchard, Kenny and Lynn get the car stuck after running over an old pipe drain. David confronts Lynn in the garage, where they find the woman seated in their grandparents' large truck, handcuffed to the steering wheel. David is shocked to find the woman is still alive, and she explains she is being kept prisoner, and that she came to warn the children about the dangers of living in their grandparents' house. They manage to undo the woman's handcuffs, after which she begins to attack David. Fleeing after the explosion, David runs back to his grandparents' home, where he witnesses them burning clothing and dragging a woman's body into the cellar. Upon sneaking into the cellar, David finds the woman's corpse stuffed in a refrigerator—the same woman he saw at the swim competition.

Some are really really entertaining and can be the next Madea or Friday. More often than not they go this route and are simply there and forgotten. It was good for what it was but half way through Grandma’s House I was looking forward to going home.

In the pool, Lynn meets Kenny, who takes romantic interest in her. When they return home, they find the police gathered near the property, removing the corpse of the man from a pond. That afternoon, a family barbecue is held at the house with the Sacketts and their children, Raymond and Darlene. While exploring the surrounding orange orchards with Raymond, David is told that a woman was allegedly murdered inside the tunnel of an irrigation ditch, and that her body was stuffed behind the stone wall. Convinced there are other bodies in the connected pond, Raymond fashions a makeshift bomb and detonates it, hoping to dredge them.

The acting from everyone not named Grandma is painfully inconsistent. A lot of the cast leans on Loretta to lead the scene when she shares a scene and moments without her suffer for her lack of participation. There are a lot of moments that seem OVER acted and some where the actors seem incapable of emoting. I give a slight pass to the over acting when someone is inebriated as that could be an intentional part of the performance but those moments pull me out of the immersion of the film. Read allA teenager and her stepbrothers are forced to move in with Grandma. They learn the true meaning of love, faith, and family through the strict rules she imposes and the devotion she displays as the extended family has its ups and downs. David and Lynn finally manage to flee back to their grandparents' house.

He witnesses his grandfather carrying his incapacitated mother through the orchard. He follows them into the basement, where he watches his grandfather murdering his mother, and referring to David as his son—David realizes he is a product of incest between his mother and grandfather. David confronts his grandfather (and father), and, in a fit of rage, beats him to death with an axe. The children's grandparents stumble upon the melee, and send them to run and retrieve help. They stumble upon a police deputy, who escorts them back to the house. He informs them the woman is in fact their mother—whom they were led to believe was dead—who has recently escaped from a psychiatric hospital in Jamestown, and is dangerous.

During their first night, David has a nightmare about his grandfather killing a woman. Grandma’s house plays out like the old film ‘Soul Food’ mixed in with some Tyler Perry’s Madea without the charisma or comedy of Madea. Grandma’s House has a  story that is predictable and derivative of a bunch of other films leaving little to the imagination. You know how this movie will progress from the beginning and there’s no twists or surprises along the way to spice things up. The predictability is slightly believable and the reason that the ideas are derivative is because they are based on common truths.

I still don’t understand some of the pivotal scenes from within the movie but more importantly, I don’t care. These are the cheesy Saturday morning/after school special gangsters that only wear all black, wear bandannas and have big thick silver chains hanging over their clothes at all times. I can’t understand why they seemed to wear the same wardrobe despite time passing in the movie and I can’t understand their circumstantial motives. They are a plot device that is reflective of the caricature of the black american thug.

Inside, David uncovers a photograph of their mother, but Lynn refuses to believe it is the same woman. David fires a shotgun at the front door when a silhouette appears in the window, unintentionally shooting Kenny in the abdomen. Police arrive moments later, searching for the missing deputy, but cannot find the woman David and Lynn claim have attacked them. David is taken to the hospital for his head injury, and kept overnight. He escapes the hospital in the morning, and steals a bicycle to travel back to his grandparents' home.

There’s a big family in a big house, some scenes that take place in a church, a singing choir, and more. And a lot of positive messages delivered to the audience about self awareness, self worth, and family. This falls into the Good category because it’s genuinely refreshing to enjoy a film that doesn’t take place in a completely urban setting. As the Sacketts leave, David sneaks into the attic, where his grandfather follows him. David escapes onto the roof of the house, accidentally severing the house's phone line in the process. Moments later, Kenny arrives to take Lynn on a date, leaving David alone at home with his grandparents.

David is startled to find his grandfather confronting him at the top of the staircase. During the picnic, a police officer stops by inquiring about the explosion. David attempts to tell him about the woman's body, but is prevented by his grandfather. There are a handful of scenes that seemed needless or just could have used some trimming or better editing.

It’s not as straightforward as the traditional home-buying process, but if you don’t mind a project, it’s an alternative entry into a market that can be brutally expensive. Realtor.com’s system seems a bit more equitable, and a simple ZIP Code search will show how many homes an agent has listed and how many that person has sold. You can also search by credentials; for example, you can see only agents who’ve received certifications such as “Real Estate Negotiation Expert” or “At Home With Diversity,” two of many distinctions awarded by the National Assn. of Realtors. For the casual shopper, these sites are a fun jaunt into the market, a voyeuristic way to spend an afternoon. But to the grizzled veteran who loved and lost, the one who has been outbid countless times, scrolling through listings becomes work. At this point, you’ll want to find the fastest, most efficient way to narrow your search.
